For my third (and final) meal from my first delivery from Plated, I made Creamy Tahini and Roasted Red Pepper Spaghetti.  This recipe was probably the most complicated of the three recipes but still pretty easy. On the recipe they give you an estimate of how long the recipe will take and I have found them to be pretty accurate, give or take a few minutes. Unfortunately, the flavor of this dish was not spot on. Continue reading

Plated: Roasted Lemon Shallot Halloumi Cheese with Jeweled Israeli Couscous

IMG_0203For my second Plated adventure, I tried the Halloumi Cheese with Couscous. This recipe featured several ingredients that I have never tried before, like the halloumi cheese and the couscous, and ingredients that I have never cooked before, like pistachios and apricots. I was originally so excited about this recipe but it didn’t quite meet my expectations.

Everything looked so good, I didn’t know what to cook first. I chose the steak because I figured it was best to cook the meat before the veggie dishes. But to be honest I did not even need an excuse, I love steak and it was the first meal I selected. I will admit I was a little nervous but the recipe card looked really descriptive and I figured if anything else, I would just follow the pictures. Not to jump too much ahead, but Plated is awesome.

ClubW: April Delivery

My taste for wine falls somewhere between a box and jug that has a handle. I was sadly born into a family of plebs who were not able to sate my love for the beautiful fermented nectar that is wine. Just kidding. Really, no one in my immediate family drank wine and it wasn’t until I tried Arbor Mist at an undisclosed age that I truly understood how great wine can be. Well, shocker, but Arbor Mist really isn’t wine. And a hearty Merlot compared to Arbor Mist is a major adjustment for the palate. Also–to an inexperienced wine drinker, wine can be pricey. Thank goodness for the Von’s (Safeway for anyone outside of So Cal) six-pack discount. I basically needed a way to experience good wine and not break the bank without having to buy six bottles at a time. This is where Club W comes in.

Food Delivery Services: Plated

Tags

,

For the past few weeks, food delivery service advertisements have popped up everywhere. I have seen them on Google ads, Facebook ads and even on social media, such as vine. These food delivery services are very different from take-out or  grocery store deliveries and use the subscription box model.  You sign up and set your food preferences and then they deliver 3 complete dinners (for 2, 4, or 6 people) a week, from the meat and veggies down to the seasonings. Right to your doorstep! They deliver fresh ingredients with a recipe for you to make your own gourmet meal. Not only am I the queen of laziness, but I am also a young professional with a busy schedule, which means my eating and grocery shopping habits are horrible. Also–shopping for one person is sometimes difficult. I end up wasting or throwing away food because I don’t eat it by the expiration date.  Sometimes, I do not even grocery shop and just eat take-out. So these awesome companies, like BlueApron, HelloFresh and Plated, sounded like a great idea. And because I am such a consumer (aka sucker), I knew I had to try one. But which one? Well, because I am such a consumer (aka sucker), I tried all of them.

I LOVE PACKAGES!

Juice Cleanse – Pressed Juicery

IMG_3510[1]

For some reason, I am drawn to Juice cleanses. I inexplicably keep trying to do them even though my last attempted was felled by my indigestion. With that being said, I am doing a 3 day juice cleanse from Pressed Juicery. I am really excited because, while the last cleanse I tried was by Suja and the juices were decent, Pressed Juicery allowed me to pick my cleanse based off of a certain list of juices. So, I picked juices with no beets. Those beets really killed me in the last cleanse.

Diamond Candles

IMG_2952For Christmas, my Aunt Shannon got me a Diamond Candle. A Diamond Candle is a candle that has a Diamond Ring in a foil package hidden in the wax. The rings are either values at $10, $100, $500 or $5000. These candles cost $24.95 but they actually give a good amount of discount and referral codes. They also have a clearance section where I have seen candles going for $19.95. I had heard quite a bit these candles but hadn’t told anyone that I wanted one so I was pleased to receive one. Honestly, the candle made me nervous at first and made me feel inadequate. Melted wax is hot so how was I supposed to get it out? What if I missed it and burned the ring? Lucky for you, I documented the ring excavation.
