And we are finally at the last service I tried, Hello Fresh. Hello Fresh offers meals for 2,4 and 6 people with options for 3 or 4 meals delivered a week. They have the standard meat/fish/poultry box or a vegetarian box. The box I got was the 3 meals for 2 people, which is $69.99 a week. While this option is pricier than Blue Apron, it is still cheaper than plated. At this point all of my deliveries were starting to look the same so I posed this box on my porch.
This box was actually the smallest out of all the boxes which me a bit concerned. I remember when I received the first box from Plated and I could not understand how all the food could fit in the boxes.
The packaging was similar to plated.
Compared to Blue Apron that uses several small bags, Hello Fresh uses one big bag for each meal. I liked this much better and it honestly does not leave as much waste.
For this delivery I got all meat dishes. Usually I will change it up and get at least one vegetarian option but these looked really good and don’t hate on a girl for wanting some meat. I received:
*Tarragon Chicken & Wheat Berry Salad with Radishes, Dried Cherries & Almonds
*Cuban-Style Beef Picadillo with Red Beans & Rice
*Pan-Seared Pork Chops with Apple Compote, Spinach Salad & Crispy Shallots
The Hello Fresh recipe cards came in booklet form which I actually thought was really cool except they gave me the recipe for salmon instead of my pork chops. I was able to find the recipe easy enough on the Hello Fresh website so at the end of the day it was only a minor inconvenience.
They also include an envelope filled with various offers like ClubW and other food/drink related coupons.
Since both Plated and Blue Apron seemed to have one stand out dish, one mediocre dish and one that didn’t work for me, I was expecting the same results but I was pleasantly surprised and Hello Fresh quickly rose to be my favorite of the three companies.
