Last Christmas, my Aunt Shannon got me a really cool Diamond Candle, which is a candle that has a diamond ring inside that is valued at either $10, $100, $500 or $5000. Basically, I love candles and treasure hunts so pretty soon I found myself buying them up. The first company I tried was Dazzle Candles. Their candles range from $9.99 to $17.99 and they also let you pick what size ring you receive. I have man hands so this was an important factor for me. I picked my three candles and literally watched them burn.
My first selection was the Plumeria jar candle. But as you can see, it came completely smashed. I almost called and got a replacement but as I had about 20 more candles still coming, I came up with a better idea.
I wrapped the candle in a plastic bag and hit the jar with a few light slams of the hammer to safely break the glass free from the candle. Then, I used the other side of the hammer to break the candle up in chunks and put them in the freezer for a couple of hours to harden.
After they were nice and hard, I put a few chunks into the melt warmer.
They melted perfectly and within 30 minutes my whole house smelled of Plumerias.
And just for fun I threw in a picture of my melt warmer because it looks like a little terracotta gazebo.
Back to the fun stuff! Because I broke the candle apart I got my ring immediately.
Ooh-la-la. It was a beautiful silver ring with a nice gem stone probably valued around $20. The only problem was that even with choosing a size 9, it came a bit small. I ended up giving it to my little sister because she really liked it and to be honest, I ordered like 20 candles so I was going to end up with more rings. (Also–ignore my hairy knuckles.)
The next candle I burned was the Gardenia Jar candle. This one smelled the best out of all the candles from Dazzle and probably burned the most consistent. (I say probably because I didn’t get to burn the first one)
I love that Dazzle puts a little instruction guide because I often forget to trim my wicks and well, a little instruction never hurt anyone. (Mom, do not say anything)
As you can see, I didn’t properly trim the wick and it got all gross. My bad. But this moment is my favorite part, when the foil wrapper starts to peak through. I tried to grab it but I had to wait.
I had to wait a few more hours until I could grab it. I can’t remember how the diamond candle was but this company uses a little adhesive strip to stick the foil wrapper to the side of the jar. This meant I had to wrangle it out a bit more than I thought I was going to have to which left a huge divot in the wax.
Oops. I am sure that part will eventually even out. (Spoiler alert: It did)
It looks like a piece of foil covered in wax.
Mmmhmm. I could tell I loved it already.
This was starting to look really promising.
Love it! This was my favorite ring out of the bunch and I have worn it pretty regularly. This one was true to size, size 9, but for some reason I felt silly wearing it on my ring finger. Probably because it is a heart. But anyways, its cute and fits.
The last candle I bought from Dazzle was the Jasmine candle. I love Jasmine tea (Shout out to Good Earth Tea!) and this smelled exactly like it.
I was doing a wine review at the same time so this picture is purely for aesthetic.
So my problem with this candle is that it was so wide, it didn’t fully melt the wax on the sides of the pot. This meant the wax on top of the foil wrapper didn’t fully melt. I am not sure it was a fluke thing but I will probably stick with the jar candles because of this.
See? It did not burn consistently.
I pulled it out eventually but it was really waxy compared to the other one.
It was everywhere!
There was even wax inside the foil. Ok–It sounds like I am being a whiner but I actually liked the candle scent. It was just messier than I anticipated which is why I upgraded from a tissue to a piece of paper.
Ta-da! It was the same ring as the first ring, just in blue. This was actually size 9 as well but it was so waxy, I had to wash it before I wore it. Now my sister and I have matching ones.
Overall Opinions:
I really liked these candles. The rings were not extravagant but they were cute and I liked them. The candles were nice and they smelled good. The price of Dazzle Candles is also cheaper than the rival companies but they are also smaller.
I still have 6 more candle companies to review, but we are off to a great start.
