Facial hair sucks. It grows so quickly and in places where it should not be (re: lady-staches). I usually use Sally Hansen cream hair removal but I decided, since I am sick and bored, that I would try to wax. I had my legs waxed once and it was a horrible experience. It felt like getting my skin ripped off. I occasionally get my eyebrows waxed and while it stings, it is not as traumatic as getting my legs waxed. I have never tried waxing the lip so that is where I decided to start.
I ran into my first hitch with the melting process. You are supposed to microwave it for 90 seconds but even after about 3 minutes, it was not evenly melted. It said explicitly not to microwave it more than 2 minutes but that barely even got the wax soft left alone a melted. I know it was not my microwave because it doesn’t matter what temperature you use, my microwave nukes everything! I even joke that the only way to properly use my microwave is to keep hitting the +30 secs. button until it is right. At 3 minutes I pulled it out and vigorously stirred until most the wax melted. I had a small clump that would not co-operate but due to the size of the jar, I didn’t think it would change the consistency too much.
They gave you a flat wand, which I failed to capture, that had a temperature gauge on it so you could tell when the temperature was safe to apply and to apply the wax. This piece was probably my least favorite tool, it was oddly shaped and very slick. I felt like I could not scoop enough wax to get the area covered. This wax dries immediately then you pull off–no strips are used.
It looked thin but dried hard pretty quickly. It was at this point I forgot that waxing hurts. It was also at this point that I ran into my next problem.
Sorry for the bad quality of that picture. The wax didn’t come off very easily. Even with it being hard and leaving a thicker clump on one end to pull, it was a bit hard to really grab. It also kept ripping apart because I couldn’t pull it easily it was almost like I was fighting with my face.
The red part towards my nose is where the wax would not relent. It did take a turn for the worse on the other side. I ended up bleeding a bit. Afterwards you rub some lotion on it (it is included in the kit) and now a few hours later it really is quite smooth and no longer red. The kit also includes a pair of tweezers and a brow shaping kit. For the price, $6.95, it did a good job. It isn’t perfect but it is a nice alternative to paying upwards of $20. I am not sure if I will use it on my brows but for lip and chin hair, I will definitely use again. I still have quite a bit of the wax left so I am confident it will last at least 10 more uses.
