Well. I didn’t mean to be gone for two months–it just seemed to fly by. This post will not be light nor will it be concise but I’ve got some old news, good news and random stuff to fill it out.
My new front door! I know people move all the time but this was a big deal for me because I moved out of my parent’s house. I am completely on my own. No roommates. No loud noises. No one to blame when shit goes wrong. I am still getting the hang of being an “adult” and it has not come without its catastrophes. Or Katastrophes as I have now started calling them.
The Pepper Mill Incident: My stove is not connected to any counters and when I cook I constantly have to walk the two feet back to the counter to put down my spices or cooking utensils.

This is the lay out of my kitchen. The stove is about equal distance from the counter as the fridge.
Normally this isn’t a big deal since my cooking sucks so bad and spices do not help. On this particular day I was using my newly acquired pepper & salt mill (sadly no pictures) to season up some particularly bland pieces of stir fry. After I had used the pepper mill, rather than walk back the two feet to the counter to put the mill down, I set it on top of the stove. I am sure you can sense the impending disaster but at the time I did not. As I was letting the food cook I had turned around and started to dig through the fridge for some salad fixings. I had been in there for maybe a minute when something hit my head. I turned back to look at the stove and at that exact moment my pepper mill, now a melty mess, gave way to all the peppercorns which upon hitting hot stove starting popping up. I felt like I was dodging bombs trying to grab the hot, destroyed pepper mill. Thankfully the bottom part of the mill, which was the actually grinder, was made of metal so it didn’t melt onto the stove. It was such a bitch to clean up because those suckers popped EVERYWHERE. Days after the incident, I found them in other rooms in my house. It was ridiculous.
The Egg Follies:
I don’t know how I keep screwing up eggs but I really suck at cooking them. The first time I had a problem it was because I didn’t use the correct pan and tried to fry eggs on a grill pan.
I dealt with these situations but the real winner was an undocumented egg flipping accident. I am not skilled with flipping eggs and I flipped one a bit too hard and it flew out of my hand and landed yolk side down and, of course, it shot up and got yolk all over my wall and curtain. That was a joy to clean up. I keep my egg making to a minimum now.
Further Explosions/Spills:
I brewed coffee without the pot. There is supposedly a mechanism that prevents the coffee from coming out until it is pressed by the pressure of the pot but it either broke or doesn’t work because I woke up (I used the overnight time) to coffee everywhere. The perk was that my house smelled lovely for days.
I got a faulty shaving cream dispenser and while normally I would just return it, I couldn’t rationalize driving all the way to Target to return an item that was only $1.36. I decided I had enough knowledge to make the aerosol can work. I really didn’t. I somehow jammed something down that resulted in shaving scream spewing out rapidly. It was getting in my face and all over the shower walls. It just wouldn’t stop spewing. I had to literally stand there and watch my new shaving cream bleed out.
For now, those are all my Katastrophes but I am positive that they will keep happening.
Now onto the next subject: CHEESE.
I got a nifty VoxBox from the folks over at Influenter for Sargento Cheese Snacks (that is almost a tongue twister for me). I was supposed to be very active and redeem my free cheese coupon and use this awesome pack that keeps string cheese cold. Seriously, it is the coolest thing. Unfortunately it came after I had moved and it took a while to forward to me (a month and half later and I am still not getting mail forwarded to me) . That being said, I still want to give them a shout out. But also criticize them for filling up my twitter feed. It makes me want to not follow them because they retweet over 100 tweets a day. At least it feels that way. Anyways, here is my VoxBox.
I know everyone is dying to know what type of cheese snack I redeemed with my free coupon so I will not drag it out. Cheddar! I was going to go with Mozzarella but I honestly felt like Sargento would have been on par with other brands like Frigo and I wanted to try something new. The cheese was a bit pricey but in general cheese is a pricier snack. I feel like the product itself is solid but it will not sway me from cheaper snacks like fruit or yogurt. I have put that damn cheese cooler pack to use though and it seriously keeps my cheese (I am now back to my Lucerne brand string cheese because of price) so cold. My mom was even jealous. I will post of a picture of that at some point.
For the last bit of old news, I have a funny picture for you:
Why is this funny? Because I was wearing pants! So much dirt came through my clothes (my stomach was equally black) and under my pant legs. I blame this on the floor of the garage and moving truck. No matter how much we swept, there was still dirt.
Now onto the current/future:
I am very happy to say that I am participating in National Novel Writing Month! (NaNoWriMo) I don’t plan on actually writing a whole novel, I plan on either finishing some incomplete stories I have or starting a new one. Hell, even if I just write more than usual I will be happy.
So here is to living on my own and writing a novel!
